          The University of Oregon Confucius Institute for Global China Studies was initiated by the University of Oregon office of International Affairs in 2009 as part of a growing national and international trend to expand educational ties with China, to promote Chinese language training, and to further intercultural understanding. It was inaugurated in fall 2010. The institute is made possible with the support of our partners in China: The Chinese Language Council International (Hanban), and East China Normal University in Shanghai. Recognizing China’s cultural, educational, economic, environmental, political and technological role in the world, the UO Confucius Institute highlights activities related to four themes:

          1.Chinese culture across borders

          2.China futures/global futures

          3.Chinese culture on a world stage

          4.China and global sustainability

          Turin Confucius Institute was officially inaugurated on October 22, 2008, and it is the first Confucius Institute in northern Italy. It is a nonprofit organization and independent Legal Corporation cofounded by the Italian National University of Turin, East China Normal University and the Italian contemporary China AdvancedResearch Center, and jointly launched under the guidance of the Leading Group Office of Chinese Language Council and International Confucius Institute Headquarters (Hanban).  Turin Confucius Institute offers Primary Chinese classes and Intermediate Chinese classes. In addition to the Chinese language courses, Turin Confucius Institute also organizes a variety of seminars, exhibitions, performances, film forums, workshops, and Chinese culture communication actively.

          Turin Confucius Institute offers children's Chinese language courses for primary and secondary school students.

          The Confucius Institute in Chicago (CIC) was opened in May 2006 and it is the only Confucius Institute in the United States which is a partnership with a school district, Chicago Public Schools (CPS), the third largest school district in the U.S. CIC is housed at Walter Payton College Preparatory High School, one of the schools in the school district and CIC’s primarily focus is K-12 Chinese language and cultural education. Located in the center of the city of Chicago and with more than 10,000 print and multimedia materials, CIC is also an educational resource library open to the general public.

          Along with Confucius Institutes worldwide, the Confucius Institute at the University of Iowa is working to bridge the gap between the US and China by promoting cultural understanding through cross-cultural communication and dialogue.

          The Confucius Institute is a collaborative project between The University of Iowa, The Office of Chinese Language Council International (Hanban) and East China Normal University (ECNU) in Shanghai. The Confucius Institute, which is part of The University of Iowa’s International Programs department, also draws upon the considerable expertise and resources in a number of colleges and units at The University of Iowa including the following: the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, the Ph.D. Program in Second Language Acquisition (FLARE), the College of Education, the Graduate College, the College of Law, and the Office of Vice President for Research.

          The Confucius Institute offers Iowans courses in Chinese language and culture and plays a leadership role in international Chinese Foreign Language research and teacher development.

          The UCA Confucius Institute for Arkansas was established in 2007. It is the 24th Confucius Institute created within the United States and one of only 200 worldwide. It is the only such institute in Arkansas and one of the very few located in the South. The Institute exists to facilitate engagement with China in ways that strengthen the understanding, opportunities and interaction between Arkansans and the people of China.

          The Confucius Institute concept has developed into a global network of more than 300 Confucius Institutes in 60 countries dedicated to the promotion and development of culture, language and business exchange with the People's Republic of China.


          The mission of the Confucius Institute at University of Central Arkansas is to promote Chinese culture within the State of Arkansas. This is done is a variety of ways including cultural training, consultation services, seminars, conferences, language training support as well as cultural performances and exhibitions.

          The UCA Confucius Institute exists to strengthen the ties between the State of Arkansas and the People's Republic of China and to enhance the mutual understanding of each respective culture. As such, the Institute is firmly committed to public service and community outreach to all segments and constituents of Arkansas.
